Removal of Known Toxins in Children’s Products

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Some related experiments have displayed that chemical toxins contained in children’s products could show their danger as well as disservice within a long period. Invisible pollution is always more terrible. Phthalates, is a kind of plasticizer which can soften PVC. At present, the material has been widely using in our daily products, ranging from cosmetics such as nail polish, hair sprays, and skin care and cosmetics, clothes, bags, children’s products, for example, helmets for roller skating, medical device, raincoats, curtains in bathroom, decoration materials to cleaning supplies. In recent years, some researches have made people start to worry about the material they are touching and using. Experiments manifest that phthalates could disturb animals’ hormone system including people’s and damage the production of androgen. What is worse, the harmful material can even lead to cancer. In addition, phthalates added into plastics is not closely adhered to the latter. When it meets with fat, saliva and high temperature, it will dissolve by means of mechanical pressure. Therefore, since the year 1999, the European Union has started to forbid the usage of 6 kinds of phthalates in children’s products. Another kind of plasticizer is called BPA, which is used for enhancing the hardness as well as strength of plastics. Baby bottle is not fragile due to the effect of BPA. BPA is not only put into children’s products but also can be found in some containers for loading food. The material is able to imitate people’s androgen and change the structure and chemicals of brain. In addition, BPA can also change immune system as well as reproductive organs. Even a small quantity of BPA could cause diseases about breast, prostate and other organs. When being heat or washed by mechanical force, BPA could be released from polycarbonate plastics and dissolves into the solution of the container.
As human beings have known the disadvantages caused by those toxins, they start to take measures to reduce or eliminate the usage of them. In June 2006, the Regulatory Commission of San Francisco adopted related regulation for forbidding the usage of phthalates and BPA in children’s toys as well as other items. The decree was planned to be effective in December of 2006 but the implementation was strongly opposed by some big toy manufacturers. In order to maintain their own profit, those companies accessed to lawsuit and implementation of the decree was delayed. The ban for chemical toxins usage has suffered from much criticism and the implementation was not easy. Many scientists who engage in research on harmful chemical materials, also advocate the ideas to forbid toxins use. In the year 2007, more than 200 top environmentalists met together and warned people that common harm chemical products including the two mentioned above could cause various problems for babies’ health such as diabetes, attention deficit disorder, cancer, fertility problems, thyroid disorder and obesity etc. In recent years, more and more people have paid attention to their children’s products and some poisoning events also make people be more careful when selecting items for kids. Nowadays, many people always avoid using items containing chemicals. If the ban can be smoothly implemented, everything will be better.

Female Doctors in China

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

In China, female doctors who are considered as the wise women always impose mystery on people’s mind. People often misunderstand them because of their high education. Some people even classify them as the third sex group except male and female. Actually, it is a kind of discrimination.
So what about the real life for female doctors? Heavy academic study has took most of their time and they live a simple and busy life in canteen, dormitory, lab and library. A female doctoral student says that many female doctors often stay up. If they don not have lessons next day, they will get up at about 8:00am or 9:00am then they will go to the library or prepare the essays. After lunch, they so the same thing. Doctoral students of science spend most time in doing experiment in the lab. They also have entertainment activities such as doing sports, shopping and seeing movie etc when they are free.
What do female doctors worry about? Sex is always ignored for female doctors. In academic field, female doctors are considered as equal as male doctors. Publication of some essays and perfection of graduation thesis are considered most by all doctoral students and female doctoral students are not the exception. They have to bear much pressure. On one hand, they become older and older. On the other hand, mentors are very strict with graduation thesis and doctoral students can be not allowed to graduate smoothly. As for the employment for female doctors, it is not easy. Most doctors choose to work in some colleges and universities with good conditions and salary but as the quantity of doctors is increasing every year, they have to face up with more competition. In addition, those colleges, universities and research institutes also set up higher standard for recruitment.
As for the marriage for female doctors, that is a big problem. Female doctors spend much time in study and do not have many friends so they do not have chance to know more men. In addition, their high education is also a kind of obstruction and even some male doctors do not want to marry female doctors, let alone those men who do not have high education. A female doctoral student says that her friends and relatives introduce her to a man but when the man knows the she is a doctor, the man refuses. After she graduates, she finds that she is more than 30 years old already and her parents worry about her marriage too much.
As for the psychology of female doctors, people always think their psychology is not healthy and they have abnormal behavior. Maybe some doctors do not have good skills to communicate with others due to insufficient experience in the society. However, some females doctors have other opinions for themselves and they think they are optimistic and open-minded. Some mentors also say that most female doctors are very excellent and they have high IQ and talents. They are also very independent and hard-working.
At present, people still have different ideas towards female doctors and they are still discriminated by people to some extent. So when can people remove the abnormal ideas?
