At present, mobile can be found even in a beggar’s pocket because it has become very cheap and people almost need it at any time. Mobile cell is not the exclusive item for adults any more and many middle school students even pupils have mobile phones. If mobile can bring great convenience for adults, what convenience can it give to the middle students even pupils?
As for the possession of mobile for middle school students, even pupils, journalists have made some survey. They have found that when the children are in Grade 5 or Grade 6, parents start to buy mobile for them because they go out more. When students enter middle school and high school, 80% of them have mobile phones. In addition, journalists also have made survey in mobile shops and found that students have become the main target consumers for mobile and the mobile shop owners also have provided some preferential polices of mobile selling for students. Some sellers even offer installment to students for mobile purchase without interest payment. Actually, mobile can bring convenience to students. They can use mobile to talk to friends and teachers after school and when they are out, their parents also can find them easily.
However, many people do not want middle students or pupils with mobile and teachers especially hate the phenomenon bitterly and mobile always intensifies the contradiction between teachers and students. In addition, most students do not use the mobile as a study tool, for example, they can use it to check and download study information. Instead, they just consider the mobile as a kind of tool to show off and some students buy some mobiles within a year. Moreover, they use mobile to play games, chat and do other things which are nothing to do with study. Most teachers say that mobile can enhance the communication between children and parents but most students can not control themselves well and children rarely contact their parents but just contact their friends. In addition, various functions in mobile disperse students’ concentration on study. Many students can stay up to play with mobiles to send messages to friends and classmates.
Some contradictions between teachers and students are also caused by mobile. Some students play with mobile in class and do not listen to the lesson. Sometimes, when teachers are giving lessons, the mobile rings then teachers are very angry. A girl student in a middle school, was slapped times by her English teacher because when the teacher gave students English listening practice, her mobile signal disturbed the effect of English radio. Finally, the teacher was forced to apologize to the student and give some compensation. In some schools, when students enter the school gate, they are checked. If they are found to have mobiles in pocket, mobiles will be confiscated.
Some experts think that students possessing mobile is not wrong but they have to be led in the proper way. It is the information age and students should know more about technology. But when parents buy mobiles for children, they have to tell kids how to make use of it properly and what the proper time to use mobiles.
