Drug Money May Have Kept Banks Afloat During Economic Crisis

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

The United Nations’ crime and drug watchdog has indications that money made in illicit drug trade has been used to keep banks afloat in the global financial crisis.  Vienna-based UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa said in an interview released by Austrian weekly Profil that drug money often became the only available capital when the crisis spiralled out of control last year. In many instances, drug money is currently the only liquid investment capital. In the second half of 2008, liquidity was the banking system’s main problem and liquid capital became an important factor. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had found evidence that interbank loans were funded by money that originated from drug trade and other illegal activities.

The Effect of War on Drugs in Afghanistan

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Has the war on drugs cause Afghanistan’s massive, illicit drug trade?  Some people seem to think so.  The war on drugs purportedly funds the insurgency, corrupts the government and destabilizes society.  The president of Afghanistan has reportedly said that Afghanistan’s illicit drug trade, not the Taliban, is the single greatest threat the country faces.  Afghanistan supplies approximately 93% of the world’s illicit opium.  This failure has many causes but supposedly a key one is the simple fact that the primary source of information about the drug trade is the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).  The organization releases a World Drug Report annually but to some critics, the report is primarily an instrument of propaganda.  Its purpose is to praise the status quo, bury evidence of failure, and frame the discussion so serious scrutiny of the War on Drugs never happens.

Should Marijuana be Decriminalized to Help Free Up Jail Space?

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Although most people don’t advocate or encourage the misuse of drugs, a lot do believe that making marijuana illegal is causing more harm than good.  For example, criminalizing marijuana has filled up local county jails to the brim.  Those that believe that marijuana is relatively harmless point to the fact that alcohol, a legal drug, probably has caused more injuries and deaths than marijuana usage.  Yet, this drug is illegal and the majority of our jail and prison population incarcerated because of drug-related offenses.  States across the country are slowly enacting laws where possession of small amounts of marijuana is legal.  For example, in Alaska you can have 28 grams in your residence legally and in Ohio, you can possess up to 100 grams before serving jail time. This a start to help alleviate the overburden prison system.

The War on Drugs and the Victims

Many countries around the world are fighting a battle against the problem of rampant drug abuse. Increased policing has resulted in many major victories in the worldwide war on drugs. Many countries have also come up with stricter laws in order to stop this menace. Although a lot of things have been done in order to stop drug abuse, a lot still needs to be done. The problem is always growing engulfing a large of victims, thanks to the powerful drug mafia. The key to winning the war on drugs and saving the victims of drug abuse therefore lies in gradually eliminating the drug mafia in different parts of the world.

War on Drugs or a War on Race?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

The failed so called “war on drugs” is an issue that is being ignored by our presidential wannabes. This “war” has always targeted minority groups and produces astounding statistics. More than 70% of those incarcerated for drug offences are Black or Latino. More astounding is the fact that the African American community is estimated at 15% of the national drug users, yet make up 37% of the arrest! While our current President is busy making new wars here, there and everywhere – maybe the next President should be thinking about dealing with some of our current “Wars” before claiming a new one.

Drug image

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

What’s the point spending millions trying to stop the export of drugs from South American countries if we glorify the use and image of drugs in the US? How many music or movie stars do we see that either talk about using drugs, recovering from drugs or have been arrested because of drugs? While the rich and famous still hold on to their selfish desire to be junkies, it will always be profitable enough for those that want to push their evil products in our country. And it is normally the little people that get caught in the War on Drugs, not the high profile buyers and sellers

Evil drugs

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

A large number of people take drugs which does harm to the harmony of the whole world and even causes the war. Drugs are so evil that can make a modern city wreck to a havoc.

There are several reasons for people who take drugs. Such as the curiosity.  A bunch of friends seek a fun in pubs, others may give them drugs, and they take them. Others take drugs because of enormous pressure. They want to get ease and relaxation from drugs.

Yet, a huge mistake is made then. Drugs possess a great temptation that make people become the servant of it. They want money urgently, and  even use illegal methods. As the result, their family is abandoned ,their nature-minded is abandoned, and they “abandon” themselves into jail. The worst thing might happen is wars .

Hence, help yourselves. Take away from drugs ,that is all from my perspective.

Drugs?Health?Money?Life!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Drugs are very harmful for people who eat it.If people trying to taste them, you will be found of them.

Although people know the drugs are bad for thier health, they still smoke them, because what?Because they feel comfortable by the drugs.

Many people don’t believe they will be found of drugs if they taste them,so,some of the people who taste it are found of them, this is the bunch of people who likes the drugs.

Drugs take a large amount of money.People maybe rich before they somke drugs, but, they would become poor if they smoke too much drugs, drugs are like the God of Death, who comes to reduce the life of yours. You will reduce the lifetime if you smoke too much drugs, you will be unhealthy. So,people shouldn’t smoke drugs.

War on Drugs

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

If we are really winning the war on drugs, then why does it continue to grow?  It seems we hear about so much drugs being found yet even more is still being distributed.  Are we really getting the big drug places in Columbia and other countries or are we being given token factories to make it look like we are making a difference?
