Organ Donation

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Organ donation refers that a natural person agrees to donate all parts or some parts of his body to medical science cause after death and as a natural person who has not agreed to donate his body when he was alive dies, his linear relatives donate all parts or some parts of his body to medical science cause. Organ transplant was human beings’ dream before the 20th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, people still felt quite helpless before patients who suffered from organic crock-up. In 1950s, doctors all over the world started human body test one after another but they could not obtain satisfactory results. Until CsA was invented, organ transplant has got great progress.
When it comes to organ transplant development in the world, it is no doubt that America takes the leading position. Even so, the number of organ donors is much less than that of patients who need healthy organs. Anyhow, the country has accumulated much experience and established perfect laws in organic donation management. In America, everyone can be the donor for organ donation no matter how old he is or where he comes from. In addition, apart from body tissues, people can also donate heart, kidney, liver ,lung and pancreas etc. According to American laws, organ donors ought to tell family members their will and they have to fill the organic donation card which must be carried by the owner all the time. In U.S.A, organ trade is forbidden by laws. In the year 2005, there were about 14,492 organ donors in the country. By 17th October 2009, 104,485 patients were waiting for organs donated by others. As for those who are lucky to obtain organs offered by others, they do not know who have saved them but they are grateful from the bottom heart.
By comparison, China far lags behind America in organ donation cause. According to some statistics, only 130 organ donors from the mainland of China have donated their organs after death from the year 2003 to May of 2009. As a professor has revealed that there are about 11,000 patients who need organ transplant operation every year. Obviously, organ supply is in serious shortage. Although China possesses advanced technology in organ transplant in the world, laws and regulations for organ donation are imperfect. In addition, China is a country paying much attention to social ethics and people generally think that dead people should be buried completely. Therefore, people in many places do not agree organ donation after death. Organ donation is a kind of behavior on the basis of willing without payment. In such case, some people do not want to donate organs because of non-payment. In addition, many Chinese people only focus themselves and are indifferent to others in the society. To some extent, it is not an exaggeration that a large number Chinese people are lack of gratitude, which is a tragedy in the society. Every one belongs to the society where he or she can grow up in healthy way. Naturally, all people have the obligation to repay the society with a indebted heart.

Fur Seal

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Fur seal looks like seal and it is spindle-shaped. The head of fur seal is round and the mouth part is short. Body hairs of the animal are short and thick and its back part is brown or black brown gray. Grown-up male fur seals have dark brown hairs as well as gray hairs on the shoulder. As for grown-up female ones, their body hairs are in light color. The color of fur seals’ body hairs can change as they grow up gradually. Although fur seal is like seal, the difference between them is that fur seal can walk on the land but seal can not do that. There are two categories of fur seals in the world and they are callorhinus ursinus and arctocephalus. Callorhinus ursinus can be found along the North Pacific coast. As its fur in great quality, the animal has been hunted in a large number so Callorhinus ursinus is considered as a kind of endangered animal on the earth. In contrast, arctocephalus is lucky and it can be easily found at southern hemisphere. Here the title of fur seal mainly refers to Callorhinus ursinus.
Fur seal likes migration. As the early spring is coming, fur seals living at various islands located on the North Pacific Ocean start to swim towards south part, scattering on the whole North Pacific Ocean. Some even reach California of America and middle part of Japan. When hot summer comes, fur seals, one after another, return to north part of the North Pacific Ocean for breeding. Fur seals are fond of warm sunshine and they often stay in groups. The animal mainly lives on cod, salmon, crab as well as shellfish. During daytime, fur seals swim inshore and hunt food and as night comes, they reach the bank for sleeping.
Kidney of fur seal is valuable for it can be made of medicine which is especially good to men’s sexual function. Certainly, fur seal’s kidney can also cure people’s other diseases. As the quality of fur seal’s fur is great and the organs of the animal could be made of medicine, they have ever been hunted in a large number. At present, fur seal is generally considered as an endangered animal by the World Wildlife Conservation Society. Nowadays, Namibia is the only country which is authorized to hunt fur seals in reasonable way all over the world. Therefore, products of fur seals only in Namibia are legal. Today, many fur seal products in China are not imported from Namibia. In fact, those so-called fur seal products are made of seals in Canada due to their similar appearance and that is why a large amount of seals in Canada have been killed. To date, the European Union has forbidden seal trade in Canada and Taiwan is also doing so. Unlike many other endangered animals on the land, fur seals can not be well protected by setting up natural reserves. What human beings can do is to restrict or forbid illegal hunting as well as killing.

Glacier National Park

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Glacier National Park has a laudatory title called the Crown on the Rocky Mountains. Indeed, precipitous glacier against great landscape of lakes is really as gorgeous as pearl on the crown. Compared with Yellowstone National Park and Rocky Mountains in Canada, Glacier National Park is not inferior at all. Glacier National Park steps across Canada as well as America, with acreage up to about 4,578 square kilometers. Hundreds of years ago, Blackfeet lived within the region. In the 18th century, many businessmen who engaged in business about furs from western countries reached here to hunt wild animals. In such case, local poor Blackfeet lived a harder life. Finally, the land of the region was sold to American government. In the year 1901, Glacier National Park was established and in 1895, Waterton Lakes National Park was set up. In 1932, people in Canada and America thought that the two parks were similar with natural landscape, animals and plants so they were integrated, named Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Glacier National park is open all round the year except Going-to-the Sun-Road which is frozen during winter.
There are more than 150 iceberg groups in Glacier National Park. However, according to some report in 2002, only 35 icebergs were left due to global warming. Scientists warned that if the glaciers continued melting in that speed, they would disappear in the next 30 years. Since 1991, an ecological expert group has started to make research and record all details about glacier melting. But scientists said that what have known about glaciers was just the tip of the iceberg and complexity of glaciers is far beyond human beings’ imagination. As for most glaciers which will disappear very soon, their changes caused by global warming during recent 100 years have not been recorded in details. At present, people can just witness reduction of glaciers by photos taken in different years. A man who has been working in Glacier National Park said he was scared after seeing glacier photos taken since 1885.
In the year 2010, more glaciers have disappeared from the world and some of the remained will continue disappearing by the end of the year. According to the new geological survey, glaciers with names in Glacier National Park have reduced to 25 ones. A scientist who also has participated in the research said that as the survey ended, acreage of glaciers was less than that when they were making investigation. We can see that how fast glaciers are melting. In this year, names of two glaciers have been deleted from the glaciers list because their acreage has reduced more than half in the past 40 years. In a word, the Glacier National Park is facing unprecedented trouble for existence. Disappearance of glaciers will pose far-reaching effects on global environment. Streams drying up, more forest fire and other natural changes are just superficial phenomena. In fact, glaciers, as the thermometer of climate changes, they can imply the dramatic changes of the whole ecosystem on the earth.

Youth’s Mental Problems

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

In recent decades, crimes reported have been increasing year by year, especially juvenile crime in America. Crime is a serious problem in the society and it has greatly posed threat on social security as well as harmony. Apart from various social factors, crime commitment is also closely related with criminals’ psychology which is considered abnormal in certain period, at least in some people’s mind. Although the developed society could offer abundant substances to people, their spirit and soul have gradually become empty, which finally can result in crimes. Many juveniles are therefore induced to commit crimes due to adults’ enticement, intimidation and threats, their own curiosity, family violence and other factors. In the past 10 years, terrible shooting in schools were not rare. In March 1998, two boys aged 11 and 13 from Arkansas sounded the fire alarm of their school. As teachers and students escaped, they shot the crowed people. In April 1999, two students in Corolla shot 12 students as well as a teacher and finally committed suicide. In January 2002, a student from Virginia killed the dean of his law school, a professor and a student after he was expelled from the university. In October 2002, a student with unsatisfactory grades killed three professors and then killed himself due to retaliation. In March 2005, a 15-year-old high school student not only killed his teachers and schoolmates but also murdered his grandfather and himself as well. In September 2006, a student from Wisconsin shot the president of his school.
The starting examples mentioned above can fully reflect young people’s psychological problems. In recent years, as people have assume more and more employment pressure, the divorce rate is increasing and more courses have been offered to students, juvenile crimes, bad behavior, leaving home without any wish to return, mental diseases and playing truant have become common social problems. As for the phenomenon, the government, schools and parents should assume the responsibility. According to the conclusion from NASP, one school psychologist should be offered to 1000 students for solving mental problems. Psychological diagnosis is a kind of complicated process for solving problems and the aim is to find out the crux of problems and take effective measures. As a psychologist, he ought to contact students with mental problems first. Then he should also know archives of students and communicate with teachers and parents as well. At last, the psychologist should carefully select testing tools and methods to eliminate students’ mental problems. The actual treatment process is much more complicated than described above. It is no doubt that psychologists can greatly help students come out of trouble. In fact, students with healthy mood is more important. To some extent, when a student needs psychologists’ help, it is a little late. If students are led by proper education, they can avoid mental problems. Students’ growth is closely related with schools, families as well as the social environment so it is not reasonable to completely contribute their mental problems to one of the three factors. Anyhow, schools, parents and the government ought to try their best to provide healthier living environment to young people.
